About the Author
Mark Wolfinger has been a professional options trader since 1977. After 23 years as a market maker on the trading floor at the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), in 2000 he turned his attention to educating new option traders. He published three dead-tree books and seven eBooks, all based on the concept of teaching people that options are nothing to fear, but instead are risk-reducing investment tools. Mark was born in Brooklyn and earned his BS degree from Brooklyn College and a PhD(chemistry) from Northwestern University. He resides in Evanston IL.

I decided that I wanted to start out trading in options but figured the responsible thing to do was to educate myself about them before hand. Mark Wolfinger's Rookie's Guide to Options 2nd edition is an excellent start. He goes into detail very well about all the different strategies- writing covered calls to spreads all the way to iron condors. He's also very reasonable and level headed in his book and not some kind of blow hard/ get rich quick writer. Well I'm not at the advanced level trading yet but his sound advice has been very helpful. Now that I've been trading for a little while I've gone back to reread some chapters and have picked up more insight. I would recommend this book, in addition to others, for anyone contemplating trading in stock options.
This is the best book on the subject that I have come across to date. Its author must be a teacher by nature, because his approach leaves no questions unanswered (and this is not an easy subject to address). It is very methodical in the way it covers the various subtopics, and it comes with sound advice on what one can and should do if s/he decides to put their newfound knowledge to work. What is fascinating is that it also dispels some of the wrong notions that are prevalent out there with regard to the risks associated with the various schemes one could use in the options market. All and all, this is a must read for anybody interested in investing in the stock market in a serious way.
This book is fantastic. Options are presented in an easy to understand format and the complexity in trades slowly increases through each chapter after part 1. My recommendation is to read this book slowly with a notebook and phone by your side. Along with every example of XYZ stock he presents in the book, I tried to find a real world example to work side by side through. This technique has really opened the door for me to the world of options. Be warned, options should be used to hedge and increase your odds of seeing consistent, sometimes smaller gains, if you're buying this book because you're trying to hit it big real quick, this book won't help you (And the book that does help you with that goal may leave you bankrupt). I truly love this book and am recommending it to anyone who wants to know about the risk/rewards of options trading.
It truly helped me to understand buying and selling options. Do the quizzes and make sure you can answer them; they are the key.
Excellent intro to options, especially for someone with a working knowledge of financial markets, stocks, etc. Book emphasizes a prudent approach to risk management, which is refreshing.
It's called "THE Rookies Guide" but is suitable for all levels of competence. This offering is even a great refresher course for many experts. Buy it you'll love it!

This is a great book to get started with for trading Options. I have purchased other books on the subject but they cannot hold a candle to this book. Well worth the money.
